BRIAN CYPHER
My art is about the investigation and realization of forms that resonate within me and around me. I’m basically a filter feeder; ideas are found through the observation of my environment and through the process of mark making itself. I let experimentation drive me intuitively with the understanding that there is an interaction taking place between how my conscious and unconscious actions are being directed. I work from shapes and forms that are both visible and invisible. I rely on accumulated iconographic lexica of ideas, shapes, and forms. This is my personal visual language that I assert when I’m drawing, painting, printmaking, etc. There is a certain level of obsession that is required to continually investigate questions for which there are no answers; just visual clues to a landscape of filtered ideas.

Everyday begins with seeing things in new ways and my mind is gathering these inputs for further artistic manipulation. Over the years I’ve learned to accept what I create as it is because that’s my language and my relationship. In the end, I’m merely forming a connection between what I think about and what I create.
